A few days ago I released a new video on my YouTube channel and decided to share a bit about what goes on behind the scenes. The topic? My daily routine as a seamstress and dressmaker in Lisbon, and what it's like to be back in the studio, serving clients every day from 9 am to 6 pm.
I must confess that I am genuinely happy to be here, in my space, working with what I love. But I also want to be honest: this routine is tiring. Very tiring, actually.
What my routine involves
Every day starts early. I arrive at the studio, prepare the space, review appointments and orders that are in progress. Then come the hours of intense work: cutting fabrics, sewing, finishing, alterations. Each piece requires attention, precision, and patience.
Between sewing tasks, there is also client service. Consultations on measurements, fabric choices, discussions about design and adjustments. It is rewarding, but also mentally demanding. I need to be present, attentive, and creative in every interaction.
The reality of manual labor
The work of a dressmaker is not just creative—it's physical. Hours on my feet, eyes focused on tiny details, hands making repetitive movements. At the end of the day, I feel the fatigue in my shoulders, my back, my eyes. It's the kind of exhaustion that comes from giving your all.
But you know what? When I see a client leaving the studio with a piece that makes her feel beautiful and confident, all that tiredness is worth it. That is why I keep going, day after day, from 9 am to 6 pm.
